Operation Baking GALS

Operation Baking GALS (Give A Little Support) is a website where you sign up to bake cookies for the troops overseas. I personally don't know anyone that serves in the military, but since I like to bake I thought I would send something over. I signed up over Christmas last year and I received this e-mail on Christmas day:
Shelly-

I just got your Christmas care package. Thank you so much! It's great to get a taste of home out here. I haven't had anything homemade in far too long, much less delicious cookies. I can't believe they made it here in this good of condition. All that packing works very well. I work in our company command post, so I've been sharing the wealth with all of our Soldiers who come to get their mail. They love them, too. The brownies with the peanut butter in the middle were a big hit. Have a great holiday season!

It was so uplifting to get a message like that on Christmas day. I sent more cookies in April and I received a similar message. I just signed up again and I will be shipping cookies in early September. If anyone would like to add to my shipment I will gladly send them along. They also love candy, gum, crackers, beef jerky, granola, trail mix, etc.

Hello?

Well, it's been a long time since my last post. My computer at home keeps losing its internet connection so it is hard to post a message. So what's been happening since my last post? I took Jake to the State Fair where he had a taste of his first cream puff. No, I did not try the chocolate covered bacon. We saw the pig races and I had a Saz's sampler. I love going there mostly for the people watching.

Last week Jamie, Jake and I spent the week with Jamie's family out at Booth Lake in East Troy. We swam the first part of the week, but later in the week the water was just too cold. We fished, but the fish were not biting. It was a nice relaxing week, but it was different having Jake there all day every day. Vacationing with a baby is just not the same and I guess we will just have to get used to that.

I visited with Becky on Saturday at her corn roast where there was a lot of great food and corn! I took Jake to see Mike and Chris on Sunday where Mike was hooked up to his machine for his knee exercises. So, nothing too exciting, but I will try to get online more often.

More Cakes

I finally have time to show you the last cake from my decorating class. We had to do roses. I am not very good at them but overall it came out better than I expected.

Then for Jake's baptism I made him a cake as well. Most of you have seen it, but for those that weren't able to make it to the baptism, here it is:

I'm not sure when I will take the next class. That one has more flowers and teaches the basketweave technique.
