Rummages, Birthdays and Goats

Last weekend I went to a neighborhood rummage sale with my Mother-in-Law, Debbie.  I am not a big fan of rummage sales because I always feel weird looking through people’s crap.  My only purchase was 2 pairs of pants for Jake that I paid $1.00 for.  Debbie bought herself an ice mold for $3.00 and got Jake this pull toy for $2.00.  He loves it!

The next day we celebrated Dad’s birthday.  He got lots of great presents, although I think his favorite was the huge container of cheese puffs.

Yesterday I finally took Jake to the Zoo.  It was his first time there.  I got a few pictures of him and Grandma B with the goats.  He wasn’t sure about them, but not scared at all.  We tried to get him to feed them, but the goats kept eating the food before we could get it in his hand.  They were hungry!

The zoo reminded me of when I worked there one Summer.  I let Mom in on my secret that I would tell Jenny and Chris to come by while I was working and tell them that they were picking me up so they would get in for free.  One time I wasn’t working, so I hid in the trunk and still got in free.  I know, we were rebels!  I don’t miss working in the popcorn wagon on a day like yesterday where temps were in the 90s!  I would come home stinking like oil and butter.

Pictures from El Paso

Unfortunately I forgot my camera, but we had two professional pictures taken that I scanned and Mom sent me some that she took with her cell phone.  For doubles, Mom and I bought Betty Boop bowling shirts.  They were very cute!

Our Betty Boop shirts

We went to a Mexican restaurant called El Pisto and this was the picture on the Menu.  Mom also took a picture of her lunch (Slow roasted pork tacos with an apple sauce).  I ordered stacked enchiladas with green sauce because I thought the red sauce was hot, boy was I wrong!

USBC Women's Tournament Results

So after 2 days of bowling and 9 games total, I did not do as well as I had hoped. The lanes were very difficult to read and I couldn't figure out where to stand or where to throw the ball. Overall, it was very frustrating.

El Paso, TX is a place I had never been and I don't know if I would really want to go back. While on our way to dinner one night we could see Mexico and the fence line that divides the two countries. I never really felt safe while I was there except while in the hotel or bowling.

I will get some pictures posted when I find my camera.

USBC Women's National Championships

Mom and I are currently at the Women's National Bowling Championships in El Paso, TX. Today we bowled the team event and it was not good. My first game was a 171 which was awesome, but I lost my mojo although I still ended up 6 pins over my average. Tomorrow is 3 games for doubles and 3 games for singles at 7:00AM :( So early!!! So tonight we will be hitting the pillow by 9:00PM and back up around 5:00AM. I forgot my camera, so no pictures right now. We had a team photo taken and we will have a doubles taken tomorrow, so I will post those when we get back.

Some of you may remember when I bowled this event last year in Reno. I was put on a team with the duckies and I am very sad to say that they are here again this year. They are just so weird! They actually go into restaurants together and quack when they get there. Very strange and I really do not want to be associated with them. In total there will be over 6,000 bowlers in this year's event.

I hope to do well tomorrow in the Singles event so I can win something! I put $40 into the brackets and came back with $39, so I lost a dollar, better then losing it all! Wish me luck!

Happy Birthday Jamie

I left Jamie brownies in his work van his morning.  For dinner we had leftover pizza and a cookies & cream ice cream cake.  I got him the Bourne Trilogy on Blu-ray and golf balls.  Jake got him a detailed street map of Milwaukee and of Southern Wisconsin.  He keeps saying he doesn’t want a GPS so we just keep buying him the old fashion maps.  Happy Birthday!

Donating

Two weeks ago I donated blood.  I tried to donate in January, but my iron level was to low, so I tried again in February and again it was low.  I was going to try in March, but I had an ear infection and just didn’t feel well enough.  Finally I made it back in and I ate a 1/2 lb cheeseburger for lunch and a steak for dinner the day before I donated and my iron level just passed.

About a week and a half ago we received cases and cases of flowers for a trial at work.  The flowers came direct from Ecuador and Columbia so they were as fresh as they get. The research trial only used a fraction of the flowers so I saved some for a party at work which was yesterday and the rest were free for anyone to take home.  I made 24 arrangements with the flowers I saved.  I used quart size canning jars for the vases (at Walmart they cost $7.88/dozen) and they turned out very well.  Today I donated the arrangements to St. Ann’s nursing home and they were very excited to have them.

This week we will be taking our spare queen-size mattress and box spring and a couch from the basement to my co-worker’s house for a rummage sale they are having next weekend.  The proceeds from the sale are going to an organization that helps women battling breast cancer.  I will probably hit the rummage for toys and clothes for Jake.
